Envelopes

16092009032

I found these envelopes in More Paperwork by Nancy Williams when I was on my placement. The images have been drawn directly onto the transparent part of the envelope as well as the paper behind it to create a new image when the paper insert is removed. Interactive handmade design is something I'm really interested in.

Ink Calendar

Picture 20

I found this when I was researching stuff at my work placement and thought it was so amazing that it deserved its own blog post. Oscar Diaz is the creator of this embossed ink calendar. It gradually fills with ink on a daily basis, therefore telling you what day it is.

"Ink Calendar" make use the timed pace of the ink spreading on the paper to indicate time.

The ink is absorbed slowly, and the numbers in the calendar are "printed" daily. One a day, they are filled with ink until the end of the month. A calendar self-updated, which enhances the perception of time passing and not only signaling it.

The ink colors are based on a spectrum, which relate to a “color temperature scale”, each month having a color related to our perception of the whether on that month. The colors range from dark blue in December to, three shades of green in spring or oranges, red in the summer.

The scale for measuring the “color temperature” that I have used is a standard called ‘D65’ and corresponds roughly to a midday sun in Western / Northern Europe.

The "Ink Calendar" was developed for “Gradual “, an exhibition featuring works, which were evolving during the exhibition time at the London Design Festival 2007.

This is the great new identity for the city of Melbourne. I love the use of isometric triangles to create the M and think the way they have created so many variations of it looks fantastic. It was created by Sydney based studio Landor. If you look at their tumblr there are loads more images of the work they have done for it including posters, brand guidelines and brochures.

Bebaroque

I don't normally post about fashion, being a graphic designer and all, but it is something I am very passionate about. At the moment I'm desperate to get my hands on a pair of Bebaroque tights. They are high denier tights that are either patterned via screenprinting or embellished and they are absolutely gorgeous. If you're feeling generous buy me the last pair please?

Ryan Riegner

Love these paper cutouts by Ryan Riegner. He uses different layers and cutouts of paper to try and convey the meaning of the word. I'm tempted to try out something similar.
